Overview
Filter Caps is one of the most meaningful projects I had the privilege to contribute to at Premium 3D SAS, working alongside one of the world’s leading creative agencies.
The mission was simple but ambitious:
create a low-cost, sustainable solution capable of improving access to clean drinking water.
I joined the project as the 3D design and manufacturing partner, bringing precision engineering, resin-based manufacturing, and high-tolerance optimization to a concept that later earned global recognition.

Context
The challenge required a device that could:
- fit common plastic bottles.
- maintain a perfect seal.
- allow controlled water Flow.
- use sustainable materials.
- be mass-producible using 3D printing.
- and reduce or eliminate post-processing.
Most designs in early concepts were not feasible for resin 3D printing at scale.
My work focused on bridging creativity with engineering, making the design manufacturable without sacrificing function or impact.
My Role
At Premium 3D SAS, I led the design, engineering and fabrication strategy, focusing on:
- Geometry optimization for controlled water flow.
- Precision sealing (no leaks, no overflow).
- Structural integrity with thin-wall resin mechanics.
- Designing the part to print directly on the build plate.
- Eliminating all supports to reduce post-processing time.
- Achieving clean surfaces and high consistency at scale.
- Full fabrication using biodegradable resin.
My priority was to make Filter Caps not just a prototype, but a reproducible, high-quality final product.
Process Highlights
- Engineered internal channels for pressure balance and smooth water flow.
- Developed seal geometry for a tight, reliable fit across bottle types.
- Re-designed the structure for support-free SLA/DLP printing.
- Reduced waste and print time through orientation and geometry refinement.
- Produced the full run of caps using eco-friendly, biodegradable resin.
- Ensured dimensional tolerance and consistency across batches.
- Delivered rapid iterations for functional testing and refining.
Impact
The final 3D-printed Filter Cap was:
- Lightweight.
- highly functional.
- sustainably manufactured.
- easy to reproduce.
- production-ready.
The project was later recognized by TIME Magazine as one of the Best Inventions, a testament to the innovation behind it and the power of combining design, purpose, and advanced manufacturing.
